Excellent lodging, friendly-efficient staff, and sumptuous food awaits The Birdiehunters of British Columbia (BBC) when they check in at The Pinnacle Hotel & Suites, Davao City on February 12, 2012 to participate in the “best golf excursion in the world“.
Let me illustrate your tantalizing prospects in being one of the lucky ones to join us. What earned this golf tournament such description? Let me start with the venue – Davao City – and its characteristic. “It is a natural haven for both sedate and daring pursuits” (from the website of Davao tourism). Were they describing the idiosyncrasies of Vincent and Cheng, I wonder? There is more in that website: “If you are in for an exciting and unforgettable experience for both business and pleasure, come to Davao and feel the captivating lure of nature’s bounty fused with cosmopolitan comforts“.
Visit here and let the photo gallery totally tempt you to block the last two weeks of February in your calendar.
Although the sweet and welcoming smile of Jet Rose, our pretty hostess and member of the marketing staff at The Pinnacle Hotel & Suite, presents the kind of hospitality that customers value, it is the impeccably maintained standard suites that catches attention. Rooms are spotless. Complimentary toiletries common at 5-star international hotels are in the bathroom. Cable TV is enjoyed not from an old 21″ CRT television set but from a 32″ LCD TV. A central light console on the headboard is handy. Room entry and security is by way of a proximity smart card instead of an old key on a jaded key chain.
Best of all, hotel guests are served a buffet breakfast complete with your favorite juice, cereal, brewed coffee, and tropical fruits. Chilled butter and condiments on “pan de sal” accompanies a four-course offering with a choice of steam or garlic rice. One of the chefs would also prepare your eggs and omelet – just as you like them. And that is all included on the exclusive BBC-PAL Interclub rate EL CAPITAN negotiated on your behalf.
Perhaps the best reason why Australians, Koreans, Europeans, Japanese, and other international visitors and investors descend into Davao City has do to with the cost of personal amenities. Where else can you have a Shiatzu massage in your room that would soothe those aching muscles after a hectic day of golf or be treated to a spa-manicure-pedicure-facial for two hours for less than $30?
Where can you go and enjoy a seafood dinner at the cost of two Big Mac and Fries? Where can you pick up a Lacoste golf shirt for less than half that you will pay at your favorite pro-shop? You could spend the entire day at the new ultra modern Abreeza Mall and get a feeling that you are in Manhattan, New York. Enjoy your favorite Starbuck cappuccino for less than half that you are so accustomed.
Be careful when you browse at the high-tech shops. Those ultra friendly and glamorous sales ladies are pretty hard to resist; you might end up with the latest iPad2 or Samsung Droid.
If you want to try the food court for some native delicacies, you are in for a real treat. Just be careful not to order “halo-halo” on your first day. Leave that for sometime when your system has adjusted to local food.
THE GOLF TOURNAMENT
There are 47 International teams competing and 45 local teams.
While the local boys are “freezing their Top Flight Pro-Vs” off, we shall be basking in the glory of balmy days, spoiled thoroughly by the experience of walking the golf course aided by a caddy whose uncanny knowledge of the greens and distances makes you feel like a Jason Day or Rory McIlroy. Add to this a Chiquita Linda that makes sure that the bright ray of sunshine does no harm to your complexion.
We are scheduled to leave Saturday, February 11, 2012 to arrive in Davao City on Monday. Those eager to get in a game that afternoon may do so at Rancho Palos Verdes. Otherwise, our practice games are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Tournament begins Thursday and the Award Night is on Sunday. We can arrange to get a few more games the following week if so desired.
