STEADY EDDIE EXCELS
With the Burnaby Firemen’s shotgun tournament in the afternoon, the Birdiehunters started from the 10th tee at Riverway. That inspired our $5 MONEY MAN, Ed as he set fire to the course. He knew this was going to be the biggest pot in a long while and the crafty senior out gunned everyone.
With a birdie on the 11th, his only miscue is a triple bogie on the 16th. With such a great start, the ‘back” nine was just a formality. His net 65 garnered 1st place.
There are rumors that Peter’s more than a month’s stay in China was to attend a special Leadbetter Golf Clinic. How else could you explain that after a month’s layoff he would come back and shot 79? And he did not even get a birdie!
Chang HJ’s steady game (76) and 2 birdies gets him best gross score for the day but that is only good for a 2nd place tie with Peter.
As a result of our revised “handicapping” system, CHANG HJ’ course handicap is now down to 8.75.
I knew right after the balls were sorted out for the day’s pairing that this is just “not going to be my day“. Can you imagine what it is like to play with Rory (7), Miles (9), and Simon (13)?
Simon was 240 yards from the green on the par 5 13th hole and he sailed his 5 wood past the pin to pick up an easy birdie. On the par 5 #5 hole, all of them were waiting for the “slow threesome” in front to hit their 2nd shot. I was happy when I could still see Miles in front of me after my drive. Usually, he was just a blur! Simon’s drive on the long par 4 # 4 hole was past the 150 yard marker! I think he had a 9 iron approach on the hole but pulled it left. My 3 wood from 217 yards settled pin high for a rare par. Both Rory and Miles capped the “front” 9 with birdies.
Mr. Ma, a familiar fellow who frequents Riverway for a game joined us today. No one would accept his claim to have a 24 handicap. Tell that to the marines!
POINT ROBERT @ 8 am on October 1
As mornings are getting darker these days, we have moved our start time so that even Bill would consider waking up for a game. With a few new folks enjoying the sport of bird hunting, we have FOUR TEE TIMES for next week.
- There were only 9 birdies today
- Harry is the big winner of the side skin games with Tony, Chang, and Ernie; Chang forks out $6.5; Ernie $8.50; and Tony $0.50
I sent a friend an invitation to join us next week. Do you recognize him?
