When the July 9 handicap indices were posted, Vincent filed a strong protest. “Why should I be giving King Kong a stroke? Why me?”
Unfortunately, the official handicap system cannot be tampered with. The Handicap Commissioner has been offered lavish gifts in an attempt to have him raise someone’s handicap index to 25 but he said, “No dice!” He also warned that anyone reaching an index of that number will be shipped to the minor leagues.
Aided by a birdie on the 14th hole par 4 by knocking in a 4 footer, Harry brought home $300,000 first prize of the day. He was so happy he bought the gang some drinks, French fries, and onion rings. (Don’t anyone ever say Harry is a tight wad!) His net score of 64 rolls back his handicap index. He is now even with Vincent. Nope, correction. He is .01 behind Vincent and .06 behind Sultan Sunny.
SEXY SENIOR DAZZLES
The story of the day belongs to Art Quan. Our septuagenarian senior nearly knocked it in for a hole-in-one on the par three #15. But what is amazing is that that marvelous shot that gave him a birdie followed a birdie on the par four #14 hole – an 8-foot downhiller that he rammed into the hole (tying Harry’s birdie on the same hole). He actually beat “all the baby golfers” in his group with an 85.
Anyone who can hold the club straight on the back swing (look at picture) could knock the ball out there even with King Kong!
Now everyone is chanting: “I want to be like Art when I get old!”
We are very fortunate indeed to have Art validate for all of us the medical finding that golf enhances ones’ health allowing the enjoyment of a long life.
We had a full house at Riverway as we were joined by Simon, Monching, Bart, Noel, Clyde, and Ben for the day. Almost everyone had a decent score.
With low scores recorded by many, there were several ties for 2nd place. Scoring in the 70’s was not good enough for the top prize as in the case of Hide and Chang.
BIRDIES HONOR ROLL
Chang and Art leads the honor roll this week with two birdies a piece. Ernie, Harry, Han, Hide, Ed, Simon, Joe, Ben, and Bart rounds out our “Certified Birdie Hunters of the Week”.
What is significant is that our longest hitter in the group who hits it a “MileS” was shut out of the birdie hunt!
HOMESTEAD CANCELLED….. We return to POINT ROBERTS
